It's almost time

The kids rushed home from school today, revved up on a combination of sugar high from Christmas parties in the classroom and the excitement of Christmas. They ran through the front door, and immediately looked under the Christmas tree to see if any new presents might have been added. There were. My SIL sent a box that arrived today. They jumped up and down and begged a bit, and we decided to let them open a present or two. Somehow, the underneath of our tree resembles what the house looks like Christmas morning AFTER Santa comes. I'm not even sure where all of the presents came from. Perhaps they multiply in the night.

Of course, Devon had to be the drama king when he opened his first present.

"I don't like this - it sucks! I hate it! I hate you!"

I'm certainly used to it, and it makes me want to wrap things like underwear for him because it is just darn funny. But the present was from my FIL who was sitting on the couch. Not good. But, he did apologize, thank him and take the gift in his room to play with. It's amazing what the threats of a call to Santa and a foot up his ass can do to change a kid's perspective on things.

Zachary was talking a mile a minute about how once they open all their gifts Monday, they will be entertained for the rest of the vacation with all their new toys. I asked what he will do if they don't get new toys. Without missing a beat, he replied, "Well, we'll play with our coal then!"

Nicholas just likes opening presents. He doesn't care about the actual present themselves. He's such an agreeable kid. I can't wait until Christmas morning because he is going to be a load of fun to watch.

In other news, we finally put PA plates on our vehicle today. I already miss my NY ones. I made Jay stick our "Go to Hell, MI" License plate frame on the back of the car. It made me feel a little better.

Saturday Night's going to be LIVE

I'm getting so excited for this weekend. Finally, we are going to break in our rec room with friends! I've got a friend from home coming, a friend from Canada and two from Buffalo. And everyone is bringing beer! WOOOHOOO!

What a crazy time we've been having here. Zack was in a school play, so I dutifully went to see him and he sang solo! I was rather impressed. Then I wanted to cry. Then I wanted to call everyone I knew, but I had forgotten my cell phone at home. He was great, though.

Sorry for a short post after such a long absence. I guess I'll have to leave you with this, passed on by my friend Delia. Keep in mind, it is NOT SAFE FOR KIDS OR WORK! It is, however, worth the look. I almost peed myself watching it, especially the end scene. (You HAVE to watch it to the credits. Don't stop the film. You'll pee yourself, too!)

It's really windy out there

The wind has been whipping for quite some time now. I watched out the sliding doors to see the playhouse blow away. It just crumpled and flipped in an instant. I had to run outside in the wind and rain to catch the pieces of it and drag it under the deck. I probably looked like a complete moron, but at least I save the pieces.

Of course the power went out then. I had planned on making a nice roast tonight with mashed potatoes, corn, broccoli and a tossed salad. Scrap those plans. We are now having frozen french fries and chicken nuggets. I guess the wonderful roast will wait until tomorrow.

Then I had to pick the kids up from the bus stop. You could literally take your life in your hands down by the wooded area. I jumped in my car, hit the garage door button and realized that with no electricity, it doesn't work. I called Jay to see how to bypass it, and it was just easier to run down to the bus stop. I felt sorry for the kids on the way home, though, as the winds were so strong I had to keep a good grip on the little ones.

We were supposed to put up our Christmas tree tonight, but I think we are just going to do that tomorrow. Bummer. I had everything all set from the scrumptious dinner to the sugar cookies and hot cocoa to sip during tree trimming. Tomorrow is another day, though.
